Seringnya terjadi kecelakaan laut di perairan masalembu, Badan Nasional Pencarian dan Pertolongan (Basarnas) diminta membuka kantor di Pulau Masalembu, Sumenep, Madura, Jawa Timur.
Hal ini disampaikan Anggota DPRD Kabupaten Sumenep, Darul Hasyim Fath, bahwa, seringnya terjadi insiden kecelakaan laut di perairan Pulau Masalembu. “Ini sangat penting Basarnas buka kantor di Pulau Masalembu,” kata Politisi PDI Perjuangan asal Pulau Masalembu itu.
Namun, kata politisi asal pulau masalembu ini, Jika Basarnas belum siap membuka kantor, Basarnas perlu memberikan pelatihan kepada nelayan atau masyarakat tentang tatacara memberikan pertolongan kapada korban kecelakaan laut.
“Basarnas penting melatih nelayan setempat untuk memiliki keterampilan, itu sebagai bentuk sense of crisis terhadap kecelakaan laut yang sering terjadi,” jelasnya.
Selama ini, menurut Darul, nelayan atau masyarakat yang memberikan pertolongan hanya berdasarkan rasa kepedulian. Sementara alat yang digunakan dianggap tidak sesuai standart keamanan.
“Kalau itu dibiarkan, bisa jadi (nelayan atau masyarakat) menjadi korban yang sama,” jelasnya.
Tidak hanya itu lanjut dia, dari segi letak geografis Pulau Masalembu menjadi pulau sabuk nusantara. Sebab, posisinya berada ditengah beberapa pulau lain di Indonesia.
Seperti, Pulau Masalembu berada ditengah-tengah antara Kalimantan dan Pulau Jawa, serta berada ditengah antara Sumatera dan Papua. Sehingga lalu lintas laut di Perairan Masalembu cukup padat.
“Ini penting agar lalu lintas laut bisa terkendali. Karena setiap hari pasti ada kapal yang melintas disana,” tegasnya.
Untuk diketahui Kapal Motor Santika Nusantara terbakar pada Kamis, 22 Agustus 2019, sekaitar pukul 20.45 WIB. Peristiwa serupa menimpa Kapal motor Mutiara Sentosa 1 terbakar di perairan Kepulauan Masalembu, pada Jumat, 19 Mei 2017 sekitar 16.00 WIB. Saat itu kapal sedang bertolak dari Surabaya menuju Balikpapan, Kalimantan Timur.
