Dari tim medis Puskesmas Pragaan melalui Serma Abdul Salam menyampaikan, bahwa penyakit Difteri disebabkan infeksi bakteri Corynebacterium Diptheriae yang dapat menyebabkan komplikasi serius, seperti sumbatan saluran nafas serta peradangan pada otot jantung bahkan kematian.
“Adapun gejalanya antara lain demam 38℃, sakit menelan, selaput putih keabu-abuan di tenggorokan, leher membengkak dan sesak nafas disertai suara mengorok,” paparnya kepada awak media pendim.
Selain itu, bakteri Corynebacterium diptheriae akan mengeluarkan racun difteri yang bisa membuat peradangan otot jantung dan akhirnya menyebabkan kematian. Pengobatannya yaitu rawat inap di ruangan isolasi, pemberian antibiotik, dan jika perlu diberikan anti racun difteri atau Anti Difteri Serum, “terang Serma Salam menambahkan”.
Diketahui juga oleh Serma Abdul Salam sesuai data yang diperoleh bahwa jumlah siswa di SDN 1 Desa Pragaan Laok yang menerima vaksin Ori-Difteri melalui suntik berjumlah sebanyak 255 siswa diantaranya 176 siswa putra dan 179 siswa putri.
kegiatan tersebut dimulai pukul 08.30 sampai dengan pukul 10.30 WIB. Adapun Respon oleh Kepala sekolah dan para guru sangat mendukung dengan adanya program pemerintah Pusat tentang pemberian vaksin Ori-Difteri guna untuk meningkatkan kesehatan siswa-siswiya.
Dihimbau oleh Serma Abd. Salam melalui para guru di SDN 1 Desa Pragaan Laok, untuk memberantas difteri menyarankan:
1. Deteksi difteri secara dini dengan memeriksa tenggorokan, jika terdapat tanda-tanda difteri segera lakukan pencegahan atau di obati.
2. Lakukan imunisasi difteri tambahan sebanyak 3 kali. Untuk itu, Serma Abd. Salambu mengungkapkan jika ragu pada vaksin, jangan tanyakan pada orang yang tidak mengerti. Lebih jelas dan pasti tanyakan pada petugas kesehatan setempat, bisa juga tanyakan pada bidan di Puskesemas, mereka yang selalu melakukan imunisasi.
