Ketua Aliansi Masyarakat Garam (AMG) Sumenep, Ubaidillah menjelaskan tentang turunnya harga garam rakyat terjadi sejak pertengahan bulan Agustus. Dari sekitar Rp. 2.200 ribu per kilogram hingga sampai saat sekarang kisaran Rp. 1.200 ribu per kilogram hingga Rp. 1.700 ribu per kilogram.
“Pada akhir bulan Juli hingga Bulan Agustus, Harga garam rakyat di beberapa daerah penghasil garam mencapai harga tertinggi, yaitu Rp.3.500 per kilogram,” katanya, Kamis 24 Agustus 2017.
Dikatakan, Salah satu faktor menurunnya harga garam diduga karena masuknya garam impor di Indonesia dan menyebabkan stock garam mulai melimpah, Sehingga, Para petani garam tidak bisa menikmati tingginya harga garam tersebut.
“Cuaca Kembali membaik, hingga produksi garam rakyat secara umum mulai normal kembali,” jelasnya.
Sementara pada saat musim garam bulan juli lalu, sering hujan meskipun dengan intensitas yang rendah. Sehingga pada awal musim kemarau tahun ini produksi garam rakyat terkendala, akibat stock garam yang ditingkatkan para petani sangat terbatas.
Pada awal musim panen garam ini, para petani berharap pemerintah setempat, melindungi para petani garam rakyat dengan cara menginstruksikan PT Garam Persero, yang merupakan penerima kuasa untuk melakukan impor garam, dan tidak menjual garam impor itu dengan harga yang sangat murah.
